Tea Ceremony

The tea ceremony has a century-old history in Japan. Everything is directed towards and focused on the preparation and enjoyment of one bowl of matcha (whisked green powder tea): The incense, displayed calligraphy, the colours and textures of the utensils for the tea ceremony are all specifically chosen for this occasion and make the guests become present in the current moment with all senses and full awareness. The careful movements and soft sounds of the tea preparation calm and focus the mind on this one fleeting instant.
Therefore, the Japanese speak of ichigo ichi'e, a meeting happening only once in a lifetime.
